Journey deep into the heart of the Maya Biosphere Reserve on this unforgettable 6-day jungle expedition to El Mirador, home of La Danta, the largest known pyramid in the ancient Maya world. This challenging trek takes you through pristine rainforest and a network of sacred causeways connecting the ancient cities of El Tintal, Nakbé, La Florida, and La Muerta, offering a rare chance to witness both the majesty of Maya civilization and the beauty of untouched wilderness.

Travelers will experience breathtaking sunrises and sunsets above the jungle canopy, explore monumental archaeological sites, and camp under a blanket of stars — an adventure that combines history, nature, and endurance.

Itinerary

Day 1 Carmelita to El Tintal
Departure at 9:00 AM from the community of Carmelita. Lunch break at Camp El Guacute around 1:00 PM. Arrival and camp setup at El Tintal by late afternoon. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2 El Tintal to La Muerta & El Mirador
After breakfast, depart toward La Muerta at 7:00 AM, stopping for refreshments and lunch en route. Arrive at the majestic site of El Mirador by 3:00 PM to set up camp and enjoy the sunset.

Day 3 Exploration of El Mirador (La Danta Complex)
Early wake-up for a stunning sunrise over the jungle canopy (weather permitting). Guided exploration of the ancient city, including La Danta Pyramid. Breakfast, snacks, and lunch are provided throughout the day. Evening sunset observation and overnight in camp.

Day 4 El Mirador to Nakbé
Breakfast at 7:00 AM followed by departure toward Nakbé, one of the earliest known Maya cities. Rest and refreshments mid-morning, lunch upon arrival, and guided archaeological visit. Dinner and overnight camping.

Day 5 – Nakbé to La Florida
Depart after breakfast for La Florida. Enjoy a break at El Güiro Camp, followed by lunch on the trail. Arrive at La Florida around mid-afternoon. Dinner and rest under the forest canopy.

Day 6 La Florida to Carmelita
Breakfast at 7:00 AM and return hike to Carmelita, arriving around 11:00 AM. End of expedition and return transfer to Flores.
